Recent Online Grocery Survey Shows Big Getting Bigger
I read with interest a recent survey by digital marketing platform Chicory, as reported by Sam Silverstein from GroceryDive.
Here are a few findings:
* Convenience rules, and is the #1 factor.
* As such, Walmart and Amazon stood out to shoppers. Walmart in particular by older shoppers, likely those are are current customers (which is a lot of people :-) )
* Instacart preferred by younger shoppers, even over Walmart and Amazon.
Despite this, I continue to think that Instacart will need to keep evolving its approach. It does have a moat, however....
The most damning thing in the report is that while Kroger did better than others, no national chain won in any category.
Not winning in any category is the best way for these retailers to have an "incremental" eCommerce business, but not to win in a growing segment.
As they say, the big keep getting bigger.
