How Google Rules eCommerce

It's ironic that Google, the original gatekeeper of information, is now the one complaining about Amazon, the new gatekeeper of eCommerce.

Is there anything that Google can do to become truly dominant at eCommerce?

I expect not at this stage in the company's history. It is what it is. It's tremendous, don't get me wrong and I can't even count how many times I use it a day.

For eCommerce, Google is ads. Ads for people with search intent. That's all. And any kind of new eCommerce marketplace model from Google is not going to challenge Amazon at this point.

HOWEVER. In one way, Google already rules at eCommerce. SEO. Ever built an eCommerce website and not care about SEO? Nope.

Every built an eCommerce website and not cared about Amazon? Well, yes. There are actually people still in this bucket.
