Shopify Investing in Shop, Blockchain, Growing in EU and Asia

Most people know that looking at a company's careers page can give you sometimes pretty significant material information about the company's future investments. I just browsed Shopify Careers again for data, product and engineering roles and a few items stood out:

- Shop App: Multiple roles related to building Shop App, including a significant focus on search & discovery of products & merchants. If that's not building a marketplace, I am perhaps easily fooled.

Lot of investment here.

- Blockchain: Shopify has a new blockchain team that is imagining how Shopify participates more broadly in ethereum and the intersection of web3 and eCommerce.

- Marketplace Platform: New products related to connecting merchants to third-party marketplaces, particularly in Asia. (I would not expect that Amazon connector to come back!). Possibly related to their JD partnership.

- Shopify Fulfillment Network: Product roles discussing continuing investments here.

Also I found where Shopify puts its SFN job postings - in the Business Operations area. Hiring someone to run their Carlisle, PA facility which is run by a partner. (i.e. not their owned Georgia facility). (It looks like it’s since been removed).

Here are a few of the goto-market teams that stood out to me:

- Marketing for Shopify's B2B Solutions

- Significant expansion of hiring in EU and Asian goto-market teams (sales, account management, etc)

Will be interesting to see a number of these products come to market over the next year.
