Is it just me or is AppleID making a major identity play at the moment? I can't decide how I feel about this.

They do make it simpler. That hasn't seemed to help Apple Pay make tremendous strides, though.

It used to be just Google or Facebook. Now I'm more consistently seeing Apple (on my iPhone).
