The Many Flavors of Marketplaces

There are so many variants of marketplaces these days that it's difficult to keep up.

More and more, brands are taking control of their resale channel.

That's not to say that their product doesn't accidentally on purpose "fall off a truck", but many brands are now taking control of their resale channel by having their own marketplace on their site through players like Yerdle which comes with an "all-in-one" approach including supply chain.

  • So to recap.

  • you can manufacture your own items.

  • sell them direct to consumer.

  • wholesale them on other channels.

  • sell them "in"-direct to consumer on marketplaces.

  • setup a rental channel on your site, or others!

  • develop a subscription box business for your goods.

  • and now, create your own resale marketplace directly.

I remember at ChannelAdvisor we built private marketplaces for companies like Motorola way back in 2002.  It was quite a big business for them!!

What's old is new again ;-)
