The Differences Between Old School and New School Brands

In my conversations, one thing I've noticed is that in the marketplace world, there is an enormous divide between "old school" and "new school" brands who sell into retailers and marketplaces.

How does it generally break out?

The old school brands dropship begrudgingly - generally only in between wholesale replenishment - and you're lucky if you get a product out the door in 48 hours.

The new school brands are designed for D2C first and understand same-day shipping cutoffs like it's no big deal.

The old school brands don't understand why you are asking them for product data. After all, they are just the manufacturer!

The new school brands want to provide you as much product data as possible, knowing it is critical to the consumer experience.

The old school brands use EDI and FTP and take weeks sometimes months to integrate.

The new school brands use APIs and webhooks and can often integrate in under a week flat.

The old school brands want to wash their hands of the consumer. Have you filled out your purchase order form yet?
