My Read from NRF 2023: Retail World Optimistic But Cautious
My Read from NRF 2023: Retail World Optimistic But Cautious
It was great to meet so many old and new friends at NRF this year.
Here are a few takeaways from the event:
* Most people are happy with the start to 2023. There is a lot of optimism and energy out there.
BUT....
* Most people understood we didn't have a full read on the consumer until April last year, and at that point it was too late to "undo" major investments (purchase orders, etc). So people are trying to delay big investments until their crystal ball is not so cloudy.
* Definitely the biggest NRF event I've ever seen. Tradeshows are back in force. I heard a "30k registered" number. Don't think there were that many, but even if it's close that's a huge show.
* Most people were happy with the show floor traffic.
* Sometimes people ask me what is hot and new. To be honest, I didn't see a lot hot and new. Personally, I think that is a good thing. Most companies are still bad at the basics and would be better served not chasing fads.
* Humans were not meant to stand in one place, on thin carpet, for 12 hours at a stretch. There has to be a better way!
After going full speed Sunday and Monday, I am not going back today so I can recharge ;-)
What were your takeaways from NRF 2023?
